Coming up with ideas for two (count'em, two) manga --- Checkmate! and an unnamed fantasy manga. I'll record them here for future reference.
Checkmate! plot summary:
A young prince is suddenly placed in the king's throne when his father leaves to settle affairs with other nations. He is placed as temporary ruler of the land. The prince loves chess --- his father taught him the game when he was a young boy and he won his second match. He is bored easily, however, with the droll everyday life of ruling the nation. Therefore, he summons wizards from every corner of the country and transforms his land into a giant chess match. He faces off against the white army, a set of soldiers the wizards have created to match against them. However, the soldiers have been starting to have a mind of their own. (A.I.)

Fantasy plot summary:
There is none! Not yet, at least --- here are some tidbits I have come up with.
A clock tower in the city of ____, the capital city of the continent _____, has been off lately. The bells ring at random times and the clock hands are beginning to slow. Many years ago, when the city was just beginning to pick up and the clock tower was built, there was an established magic academy in the city. Their star pupil, _____, was boasted about throughout the lands. She was a prodigy, and well-heard of. There was no source powerful enough to power the clock tower, but the builder would not let it go to waste. He made it so that all of the citizens in the city would hate the girl, and then sealed her inside the tower and used her magic to run the clock.
She breaks the seal, angry at the citizens of the city whose residents had betrayed her in the past.
A traveling minstrel in the floating city of _____, center of magic.
And that's it! How the hell do people like kurot and shilin manage to make these huge fantasy manga. Seriously. Maybe I'm just uncreative. :(
